LONGUEUIL: $1 M awarded to the Cégep Édouard-Montpetit for aerospace research

Two subsidies from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERCC), to the amount of $1 024 343, will help the Cégep Édouard-Montpetit and its Centre technologique en aérospatiale (CTA) to acquire technological instruments for surfaces and to continue the metallic fabrication sector of the AUTOCUT project. $124 343 will be used to buy equipment, and the other $900 000 will be awarded to the AUTOCUT project to develop specialized data analyzing tools to better process a larger volume of information collected to find trends to facilitate decision making.

LONGUEUIL: Residential sales on the rise in Longueuil

Residential sales were on the rise for the second trimester of 2019. Numbers recently published by the Quebec Professionnal Association of Real Estate Brokers (QPAREB) show that sales in the Vieux-Longueuil borough have increased by 20%, and those in Saint-Hubert and Saint-Lambert are up by 14%. By contrast, new houses on the market fell by 12% to 25% depending on the sector. These situations put a premium on price, as shown by the increases of 10% in Saint-Lambert and 12% in Saint-Hubert and Vieux-Longueuil.

LONGUEUIL: Lito Green Motion unveils its second-generation electric motorcycle

Longueuil-based Lito Green Motion recently unveiled its brand-new second-generation electric motorcycle. The article from La Presse states that the Sora Génération 2 is powered by a more powerful engine (80 kW, 107 hp) than the last version. It also has a battery with a 50% increase, and now has a top speed of 193 kph and goes from 0 to 100 in three seconds.

LONGUEUIL: Financial aid of $850 000 to three Longueuil agencies

The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), Développement économique Longueuil (DEL) and Développement aéroport Saint-Hubert – Longueuil (DASH-L) will split $853 595 coming from the Fonds d’appui au rayonnement des régions (FARR) to carry out projects that will benefit the Longueuil community. The RTL will receive $380 000 to improve mobility and accessibility with an eye to created socioeconomic growth. DASH-L will get $160 000 to optimize the accessibility and competitiveness of the Aéroport Montréal Saint-Hubert Longueuil. DEL will obtain 380 000$ for the digital transformation of compagnies and to offer support to fill needs related to recruiting and maintaining jobs in Longueuil.

LONGUEUIL: Another acquisition for KDC/ONE

Knowlton Development Corporation (KDC/ONE) just concluded a second acquisition in as many weeks. After buying French group ALKOS at the beginning of July, the Longueuil-based company announced that it has acquired the assets of Swallowfield, for $57 millions. Swallowfield is an established leader in the personal care and beauty space. Swallowfield's manufacturing business focuses on the development, formulation, and supply of products for customers which include many of the world's leading brands. Swallowfield's differentiated manufacturing offering includes aerosols, hot pour products, cosmetic pencils, fragrance and gifting. Headquartered in Wellington, UK, the manufacturing business has approximately 560 employees and operates across three main facilities in Europe (two in the United Kingdom and one in Czech Republic), as well as a sourcing office in China and sales offices in Paris and New York.

LONGUEUIL: Héroux-Devtek part of an epic journey to the moon

Building landing gear is a long-lived tradition since 1942 at Héroux-Devtek. So much that 50 years ago, the Longueuil-based company, then known as Héroux Machine Parts Limited, built the landing gear for the lunar module of Apollo 11’s mission to the moon. Héroux-Devtek manufactured the spider-like landing gear legs on the lunar module to NASA’s specification. To this day, the legs remain on the moon in an area known as the Sea of Tranquility.

LONGUEUIL: A collaboration between Vizimax and a Swiss company leads to a world premier

A collaboration between Vizimax and Tavrida Electric, a Swiss-based company, has recently led to the release the world's first, compact SF6-free, single-pole operated 24 kV metal-clad switchgear with advanced, synchronous and transient-free switching control. This new solution will achieve near-zero inrush currents and reduce voltage dips when energizing power transformers, while eliminating destructive transients when switching MV capacitors, harmonic filters, reactors. The independent pole operated 24 kV metal-clad switchgear circuit breaker provides solution for CAPEX limitation, transient mitigation and asset preservation aimed at power utilities, renewables, mining, steelmaking, railway and electro-intensive industries.

LONGUEUIL: KDC/ONE acquires a French cosmetics manufacturer

Knowlton Development Corporation (KDC/ONE) recently announced that it has acquired ALKOS Group, one of the top French cosmetics manufacturers. In buying ALKOS, KDC/ONE gets a company that has its headquarter in Paris, employs more than 400 persons in three factories and is the only French manufacturer of cosmetics pencils. LONGUEUIL: The new Industrial expertise center will open in November

The new Industrial expertise center (IEC) is set to start its activities in November. Run by Développement Économique Longueuil (DEL), it will be located on Curé-Poirer Ouest Street in the Centre de formation professionnelle Pierre-Dupuy of the Commission scolaire Marie-Victorin (CSMV). The service offer will include demos, technological showcases and workshops wich will immerse entrepreneurs in a future factory. Business coaching by four specialists will also be available in sectors like artificial intelligence, robotics, advanced automating, manufacturing optimization and business strategy.

LONGUEUIL: Fruitful year for D-Box in international markets

June 26, 2019

D-Box had a fruitful year in several international markets in 2018. Its annual report shows that it signed a contract with Cinesa Luxe, a subsidiary of Odeon Group, an AMC Entertainment Company, to expand its operation in Spain, and signed with Hoyts Cinemas, a leading exhibitor in Australia, to equip four auditoriums with over 200 recliners. The Longueuil-based company also inaugurated the first full screen of D-BOX recliner seats in Las Vegas with Maya cinemas last January. On the local market, D-BOX will equip eSports Central to launch Montreal’s first eSports Entertainment complex featuring six racing motion simulators.
