LONGUEUIL: An American firm invested $ 75 million in XNRGY Holdings

A global private equity firm, today announced a $75 million investment over the next three years in XNRGY Holdings, a newly formed HVAC engineering and manufacturing company headquartered in Longueuil. In total, the initiative will create more than 250 new jobs and contribute significantly to the regional economy through the purchase of locally sourced goods and services.

LONGUEUIL: The RTL receives the first small-sized electric bus in Québec

The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) recently received its first small-sized electric bus— the first 100% electric midibus on the road in Québec. “This pilot project involving electric buses is a major step in the development of an electrification plan for our entire network,” states Jonathan Tabarah, Chairman of the RTL Board of Directors. This new transit solution is further evidence of the importance that the RTL places on the environment.

LONGUEUIL: $3.5 B investment in the downtown core

Unveiled in the Université de Sherbrooke Atrium on December 13 during an event attended by the mayor and elected officials, the model of the downtown project centred on Place Charles-LeMoyne provides a snapshot of what’s in store for this part of the city.

LONGUEUIL: Ecoresponsability and workforce shortage at the center of the ninth “Rendez-vous de l’innovation”

More than 350 entrepreneurs took part in the ninth edition of the “Rendez-vous de l’innovation”, organized by Développement économique Longueuil (DEL). The conference was focused on the 4.0 digital industry, ecoresponsability and the labor shortage. The event helped participants to start their preparation for 2020 with insights into the factory of tomorrow and a peak into the latest trends in the manufacturing sector. Futuristic demos, multiples lectures and personalized meetings with multidisciplinary researchers gave entrepreneurs information on current issues in the sector. Workforce attraction and retention and “going green” were subjects addressed in this ninth edition of the conference.

LONGUEUIL: A 3D screen that dosen’t need glasses!

A 3D screen that doesn’t need the user to wear glasses? Yes, it exists and one is manufactured in Longueuil. AYE3D designed and fabricates the FRƐ3DOM 3D screen, wich looks like a normal monitor but thicker. Its top-notch resolution (2560 by 1440 pixels) make the user believe that the object they are seeing is the real thing. What’s more, the software devised by AYE3D uses 3D recorded images that can be used, for example, to see organs for a transplant procedure or see a fragment of an engine to help build or repair it.

LONGUEUIL: The Édouard-Montpetit Cégep inaugurates a new technologies initiation center

The Édouard-Montpetit Cégep recently inaugurated the Espace Moebius, new technologies initiation center that proposes to students, professors and personnel advanced digital creation tools to help test new technologies and map out innovative pedagogic applications. The Espace Moebius is devised in three sections: a “médialab”, an interactive learning class (CLAAC) and a discussion zone.

LONGUEUIL: 60 M$ pour un nouveau bureau de projet pour le développement du transport en commun

The Transports ministry is investing 60 M$ to create a new projects bureau that will be in charge of finding ways to develop public transit options on the South Shore. This bureau, which will be led by the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), will be tasked with studying structuring implantation projects in axis with either the Longueuil metro station, the south end of the yellow line, or the Taschereau Boulevard. The ministry believe that the arrival of the bureau will improve the coordination and will help put in place a regional outlook of public transit. The project’s governance will be assumed by the City of Longueuil, the ARTM, and the bureau itself will be the responsibility of the RTL, which will be asked to work with all the local partners.

LONGUEUIL: SAIL Outdoors unveils its first distribution center exclusive to online orders

SAIL Outdoors recently unveiled its first distribution centre to process online orders for its SAIL and Sportium transactional sites. Located in Longueuil and covering 80,000 square feet, this warehouse will meet the growing demand for online sales from across Canada. The state-of-the-art warehouse is equipped with an ultra-modern inventory tracking system and a 700 feet of conveyor belt. This will enable the company to optimize the processing time for orders, to increase substantially the number of products in stock and will make it possible for the banners to process 500,000 online sales within four years. The opening of the distribution center created 30 jobs, and a total of 50 employees work there.
