Longueuil, a city of wellness and healthy lifestyles

Longueuil is a large city that provides its citizens with green spaces where they can relax and recharge their batteries. In Longueuil, you can enjoy your favourite recreational activities and sports year-round thanks to the city’s approximately 200 parks—including four nature parks—its bike paths and its municipal beach located in Parc de l’Île-Charron, along the St. Lawrence River. You can even cycle during the winter along 5 km of bike paths that are cleared of snow (“the white network”).

Parks and green spaces

Longueuil’s territory features vast green spaces designed to encourage residents and visitors alike to enjoy the outdoors and practice their favourite sports all year round. Why not take some time to observe the flora and fauna at a rest or picnic area? A wide range of activities are at your disposal, including several free ones at Parc de la Cité and Parc Michel-Chartrand. The nature park network also includes the Réserve faunique du boisé Du Tremblay and Parc Marie-Victorin, which is particularly popular among boating enthusiasts.

Parc Michel-Chartrand is a delight for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who enjoy its all-season facilities. Very popular with families and exercise enthusiasts, it is visited by nearly 600,000 people each year.

Sports activities

Ville de Longueuil and other area organizations offer a wide range of exciting sports and outdoor activities in safe and secure facilities. Some examples include the Marathon SSQ de Longueuil, the Festival des 36 h en action and the Salon de la course et des saines habitudes de vie.

A well-known event in the running world, the Marathon SSQ de Longueuil is the most popular marathon in the Montérégie region. The event stands out thanks to its excellent organization, its flat, fast routes, and its scenic course that winds through Ville de Longueuil’s most beautiful attractions, including Parc Michel-Chartrand Park and rue Saint-Charles.

The Marathon SSQ de Longueuil is a tangible outcome of the Politique en saines habitudes de vie, which was unveiled in May 2016. This unifying, festive and lively event aims to promote physical activity and healthy eating, in addition to falling within one of the city’s four key priority areas: Longueuil, an active city.
